Columbia Gas Will Reimburse Up to $1,000 of Your New Gas Piping — Here's How to Claim It
Converting your home to natural gas with Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania? Columbia's Piping Credit Reimbursement Program can pay back up to $1,000 of the gas piping inside your house. Columbia proposed the credit in 2015, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved it that December, and Columbia's latest report to the PUC lists 23 piping reimbursements in 2024.
Who qualifies for the Columbia Gas piping credit?
Columbia Gas serves your address, not Peoples Gas. Columbia's Natural Gas Availability Form gets you an answer within two business days.
You're converting an existing home and getting a new residential meter. It's one reimbursement per meter, one time only.
Columbia approves your project when you request service, then sends you the reimbursement form.
The credit covers piping on your side of the meter that feeds gas appliances. It doesn't cover the yard service line, the appliances themselves (see Columbia's efficiency rebates), or piping added later.
How to claim your $1,000 piping reimbursement
Apply with Columbia's online service application or the printable residential form (PDF).
Hire a qualified contractor. Columbia requires the gas piping as a separate line item on your paid invoice.
Get the new piping pressure-tested, the meter set and your Columbia account active.
Email the reimbursement form and paid invoice to MeterRebate@NiSource.com. The mailing address is on the form.
Converting a commercial property?
Businesses use the same online application or the printable commercial form (PDF), and Columbia's Business Supportpage has more. The $1,000 credit is published for residential meters, so ask your New Business representative which incentives apply before work starts.
Steel City Natural Gas customers are already getting money back
Steel City Natural Gas customers have already used the credit to cut their conversion costs. We install and pressure-test the house piping, including lines for tankless water heaters, and list it as its own line on your invoice.
